GREEN: Gervasi Vineyard’s newest project, which is expected to open in late 2014, has a new name, logo and official Facebook page.
General manager Scot Swaldo, son of owner Ted Swaldo, announced Wednesday that remodeling is well underway for the Twisted Olive Italian American Kitchen, located in Green’s Southgate/Boettler Park, at the former Belden Lodge.
In May, Ted Swaldo, founder and owner of Gervasi Vineyard and Italian Bistro in Stark County’s Plain Township, agreed to purchase the 8.4-acre lodge off Massillon and Mount Pleasant roads from the city for $625,000.
At the time, Swaldo said he planed to turn the three-floor, 16,000-square-foot lodge into a gourmet restaurant, a special events center and an Italian bistro.
In 1999, Swaldo built ASC Industries, the largest manufacturer of water pumps in the world, on International Parkway in Green. After a brief retirement, he transformed a 55-acre farm into the Gervasi Vineyard. The property includes a winery, bistro, marketplace, villa suites and a large outdoor pavilion.
Construction of a 28-foot driveway to the Twisted Olive site about one-half mile north of Mount Pleasant Road is underway, as well as the construction of a bridge to cross a portion of the property’s wetlands.
The Twisted Olive, whose address will be 5430 Massillon Road, promises to provide a modern dining experience in a beautiful outdoor setting overlooking expansive landscapes and water features, said Cynthia Johnson, marketing manager for Gervasi.
The casual menu will include classic Italian-American meals geared to family and business luncheons and dinners.
The decor will be an “eclectic blend of vintage and new world design. That, coupled with a family friendly menu that includes pizza, steaks, sandwiches, pastas and salads, should make it a favorite of diners from Jackson Township, Green and the surrounding communities,” Johnson said in prepared statements.
Green Mayor Dick Norton said he is looking forward to the opening.
“The Twisted Olive will be another first-class property, like Gervasi Winery — a destination dining restaurant that people from all over the region will come to Green to enjoy,” he said.
