GREEN: The Loving Hands Preschool has achieved the highest award for excellence from the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services’ Bureau of Child Care and Development.

To mark the achievement and display the new banner, the 63-student, non-profit private preschool for ages 3 through 5 years old will host an ice cream social at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Greensburg United Methodist Church on Greensburg Road for pupils’ families and members of the church with whom the preschool is affiliated.

Director Shannon Miller said the preschool, which started in 1992, is the first non-profit, private preschool in Green to receive the state group’s highest achievement award known as the Three-Star Step Up to Quality award. Only 13 other such preschools in Summit County are similar recipients.

The state agency presenting the award is responsible for licensing and promoting high standards among Ohio’s child-care centers.

Miller said participating centers can earn a one-, two- or three-star rating by meeting an extensive list of quality benchmarks designed to improve the growth and development potential of children. She said the rating system also gives parents a useful tool for selecting quality early childhood programs.
