The City of Green will host a ceremony at 10:45 a.m. on Monday at Green Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Steese Road.
World War II veteran and lifelong Summit County resident Pete Keslar will serve as guest speaker. Keslar was serving as a Marine when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
Mayor Dick Norton will also speak in honor of the veterans and the Green Intermediate School Choir will perform.
"It has become tradition in Green at the end of our Veterans Day ceremony to ask Veterans to line the ribbon walk of the memorial, so that those in attendance may shake hands with each of the veterans and personally thank them for their service,” said Norton in a news release. “I’ve heard from a few who have attended in the past that this small gesture was the first time they were ever thanked personally.”
Following the ceremony, veterans and guests are invited to enjoy refreshments in the John Torok Community and Senior Center located at 4224 Massillon Road.
