GREEN: This year’s top 25 Green High School seniors will be honored at a special double-honors banquet March 20 when they are saluted for their academic efforts and each then surprises a person who has been most influential in their lives.

The 16th annual banquet will begin at 6 p.m. at the Raintree Country Club, according to Principal Cindy Brown, who said the guest list includes about 150 students, parents and the pupils’ “mentors.”

“The invitations all have been mailed and the students have submitted their lists of teachers and others outside the school whom they wish to honor,” Brown explained.

She stressed that the students don’t know which person on their list has been invited, and those being surprised don’t know which student selected them.

The banquet is sponsored annually by the Park Honda Group at a cost of about $16,000 Brown said, adding that the business has been a strong supporter of the school for years.

Brown credited former Principal Gary Geis with conceiving the idea for the honors banquet nearly two decades ago.

Since its inception, the banquet has honored the academic top 25 students annually. This year’s group has an average grade point average of between 4.27 and 4.019.

The 25 student honorees in alphabetical order are:

Rebecca Albert, Tyler Bare, Joshua Bartley, Alexa Benear, Lauren Braswell, Cassidy Calaway, Tyler Cindea, Clark DeVitis, Adam Haines, Emily Howerton, Edward Janini, Griffin Jenkins, Nicholas Kozak, Ryan Kramanak, Sarah Ludwig, Autumnn (cq) Merrill, Haleigh Minor, George Moresea, Matthew Murrow, Andrew Ondracek, Jean Pannikottu, Lisa Rardin, Victoria Stephens, Kristen Trowbridge and Megan Woods.

“This is a big moment in the lives of these seniors, one that will stay with them for a long time,” Brown said.

“We are grateful for all of our 250 seniors and for those who have helped guide their lives” in these formative years, she said.
