GREEN: The city on Tuesday agreed to a nearly $3.18 million cut in the 2013 operating budget compared to 2012 while granting four contracts totaling more than $1 million.

The actions were taken at the City Council’s last meeting for this year.
The council will hold an organizational meeting at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 3 and its first 2013 meeting and committee talks Jan. 8, President Joel Reed said.

The operating budget for 2013 will be nearly $33.2 million. Several items that previously would have been included in the operating budget will be included in the capital budget of about $17.1 million that the council will consider at its Jan. 8 meeting.

Approved contracts included $290,627 to improve storm sewers on Spade Road, $367,285 to create two baseball fields at East Liberty Park, $337,808 to renovate one restroom and build another at Boettler Park and $70,475 to improve signals at South Main Street and West Nimisila Road.
