The City of Green contracted the Ohio Geese Control on Wednesday to chase geese out of Boettler Park with the help of border collies, according to a press release on the city’s website.
The dogs will be throughout the park at various times during the day. They will be wearing orange vests as their signifier. Park visitors are asked to refrain from petting the dogs while they are at work, and to keep their pets on a leash. As a reminder, resident’s dogs are only allowed in Southgate Park.
Geese display aggressive behavior over their territory, which makes their presence in the park dangerous. Border collies are used because geese perceive them as a threat. The geese will eventually seek refuge elsewhere due to the harassment from the dogs. This method has proven to be a natural and effective way to rid the park of geese.
