GREEN: Final paperwork was signed Wednesday closing the $625,000 sale of the Belden Lodge in Southgate Park to entrepreneur Ted Swaldo.

Mayor Dick Norton previously had signed the paperwork for the city’s sale of the 8-plus acres of property and lodge to Swaldo, city Law Director Stephen Pruneski said.

Swaldo, who founded and owns the upscale Gervasi Vineyards in Stark County, plans to develop the Belden Lodge land into a restaurant, banquet rooms and office facility.

Gervasi features dining in one of several refurbished buildings on the property along with a winery and amphitheater for outdoor events, including weddings and receptions.

Swaldo plans to make renovations to the Green lodge’s exterior and add a roadway off Massillon Road, along with a new bridge, to reach the three-story lodge while preserving wetlands on the site.

He personally financed the purchase, with the funds going to the Green Parks and Recreation Division.
